MNTGE Aims to Bring Authentic Vintage Fashion Into the Metaverse

NFT collectibles and vintage apparel are two very different products. However, both have fueled secondary markets with value defined by unique traits, provenance, and rarity. These commonalities have led to the birth of MNTGE, a digital fashion firm that seeks to bring vintage wear into the metaverse.

Snoop Dogg’s brand manager, Nick Adler, founded MNTGE alongside sneaker and streetwear designer Sean Wotherspoon and Brennan Russo, ex-Adidas marketing manager. Adler says the idea to turn vintage apparel into NFTs came up when he and Russo visited Wotherspoon’s shop.

MNTGE will officially launch on December 14, with its Ethereum NFT dubbed the “MNTGE Pass.” In addition to the firm’s ambitions of taking physical vintage wear to the NFT space, MNTGE also seeks to build a community amongst fashion enthusiasts, offering priority access to authentic vintage finds.

There are 1,500 MNTGE Pass NFTs, each selling at 0.5 ETH (about $650). The NFT gives holders access to MNTGE’s token-gated Discord community in addition to priority access to Wotherspoon’s collection and from other designers in the future. Adler says that there will be NFTs airdrops to holders along the way.

MNTGE Set to Drop Its First Digital Fashion Collection

After launching MNTGE Pass, the firm will drop its first digital fashion collection to showcase the technology that it is using. Wotherspoon curated the apparel and later used a high-end capture system similar to that used to create digital doubles of actors for movies to virtually recreate the physical vintage apparel.

Wotherspoon collects rare vintage apparel and is privileged to have designed for famous brands like Adidas and Nike. He says that MNTGE seeks to bring a level of detail and imagination that nobody would have expected in a digital collectible before.

MNTGE Seeks to Create Its Own Digital Fashion Pieces Before Onboarding Other Brands

While MNTGE can opt to scan the existing vintage apparel and sell them as NFTs, there are several legal hurdles to clear. Adler says the firm has secured licenses from yet-to-be-announced brands to bring their vintage fashion into the metaverse. However, he adds that MNTGE will first focus on establishing itself through pieces not tied to any licenses.

Beyond digital fashion, MNTGE is looking for a way to provide Pass NFT holders access to the kind of vintage gems that Wotherspoon regularly sources. Once the MNTGE online store goes live, The NFT holders can buy authentic vintage apparel sold at significantly lower prices than those offered at trendy shops.

Also, MNTGE targets to onboard future (physical) pop-up shops around fashion and art global events, including the New York Fashion Week and Art Basel, ensuring increased advantages for holders. Adler added that the company is working with renowned NFT PFP (profile picture) projects to create possible
